  • This car park is pay & display and has 3 machines that are coin only [no change given]. You can also pay to park in this car park via the Paybyphone app https://park.paybyphone.co.uk/bradgatepark/?fbclid=IwAR2hN4vFuF6pKqQ9UaoZ_81h8DnUeQ5wgNMZbDUXDYDtfdknQL8t5cSwbZ0. The parking is £2.00 but may be £3 if the parking gods decides it’s classed as a bank holiday.  Toilets available in carpark
  • We will meet in the car park, and then warm up on the way to the start which will give you a bit of time to get your bearings in the park. The park itself is a country park on footpaths. Some of this is tarmac, but 99% of it is off road terrain, so trail shoes are probably best. They aren’t vital, but if it is wet then you should seriously consider them
  • You should come prepared/dressed in appropriate running attire depending on the weather
  • We should be running, including the warm up for around 1 hour 15 minutes, to 1 hour 30
  • You will be given a map showing the footpaths of the park and the checkpoints. Each checkpoint will be given a score. The aim will be to visit as many checkpoints as you can in the time period to obtain the highest score you can. On the flip side of the map there will be a list of each of the checkpoints where it will identify what each check point is. It might be a signpost, or a park bench or it might be something where I need you to take a photograph of something specific to prove you’ve been to that location. All of the checkpoints will have some kind of distinguishing feature that you’ll make a note of on the flip side of the map. Don’t worry, this will make more sense on the day when I run through the details with more clarity
  • In terms of equipment, you won’t need much: 1: a pencil 2: a phone to take a photograph (don’t worry if you don’t have a smart phone, there are only two checkpoints that need this. I’ll accept some kind of written description of the ‘feature’ 3: Bradgate park isn’t huge and it would be difficult to get lost, and as such a compass isn’t a necessity but if you have one or have one on you then it could come in handy, and if you do get lost, then because this is less about orienteering, and more about having fun, I’ve not objections to you using the phone to determine your location if you get lost ,but this should really be a last resort. If push comes to shove you could always use the sun. But seriously, I’ll explain on the day how to get your bearings if you get lost. 4: maybe a gel and or water, but we’re only out for an hour and a half so this isn’t vital. 5: appropriate running gear. 6: a smile
  • depending on numbers, people could run in teams of two
  • don't worry about fitness. How far you run is solely up to you!
